General Syllabus Guidelines
PPCC has developed a college-wide syllabus template to provide students with a clear path for success. Based on student feedback, college support and state directives, a syllabus task force developed an accessible syllabus template that is composed of three components:
1. Course Syllabus - class information students need to be successful in the immediate course such as contact information, assignments, and grading policies.
2. Master Course Syllabus - state determined learning outcomes for each course, and can be found on the PPCC’s Master Course Syllabus page
3. The Institutional Syllabus - PPCC policies and information that apply to all PPCC courses
Course Syllabus Guidelines
All instructional syllabi at PPCC must meet institutional standards for accuracy and content. Standard information includes such items as:
- Course Identifying Information
- Course Description
- Instructor Information
- Course Policies
Master Course Syllabus
PPCC courses are required to include the Master Course Syllabi (MCS) which contain the state determined course learning outcomes. Departments will provide new instructors with already created MCS for most courses.

Linking to your MCS
The information in MCS - which includes student learning outcomes and topical outlines - allows instructors to cut down on the information that they include in their course syllabus while also making that information available to those that wish to view course details.
The linking convention for MCS is as follows:
www.ppcc.edu/MCS/ [3 Letter Department Code] / [3 digit Course Number]
examples include:
www.ppcc.edu/MCS/ENG/121
www.ppcc.edu/MCS/BUS/115
www.ppcc.edu/MCS/COM/220
www.ppcc.edu/MCS/BIO/111
www.ppcc.edu/MCS/NUR/212
*If you experience issues linking your course MCS, contact your department chair or academic division administrators.
